Wetherby sparkled with festive cheer as the community gathered for the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On, organised by the Wetherby Business Association. This year’s event debuted a brand-new format, running all day on a Sunday to help local businesses launch the crucial festive trading period.
The event featured a host of activities, drawing crowds throughout the day, and culminated in the magical moment when Councillor Dawn Payne, the Mayor of Wetherby, joined three players from the Leeds Rhinos to switch on the town’s dazzling Christmas lights.
“The lights switch-on is always special, but this year’s all-day format has been fantastic for bringing people together and supporting our local businesses,” said Councillor Payne.
The Mayor embraced the festive spirit by writing and posting her letter to Santa and spent time with the hardworking elves who played a vital role in organising the day and installing the lights.
“Huge thanks to the Wetherby Business Association and the incredible team of elves for making this happen,” she added.
The event marked the start of the holiday season with a perfect blend of community spirit, festive fun, and support for local traders, ensuring Wetherby is ready for a Christmas to remember.
