A vacancy has arisen on Wetherby Town Council following the resignation of Councillor David Frame.
The process for filling this vacancy follows legal requirements set out in the Local Government Act 1972.
When a casual vacancy occurs, a formal notice is displayed, giving local electors the opportunity to request an election. If ten local electors from the West Ward submit a written request to Leeds City Council’s Returning Officer by 24th September 2025, an election will be held. The cost of the election will be met by the Town Council.

If no election is requested by this deadline, the Town Council will be permitted to fill the vacancy by co-option. In this case, residents will be invited to express their interest in becoming a councillor. The Town Council will then select a suitable candidate at a future meeting.
